Type of Available Positions
Ģý offers a wide range of opportunities for employees. From teaching and research roles to professional, administrative, and support positions, every job on campus plays a part in enriching the Asheville community. EHRA employees are Exempt from the North Carolina Hܳ Rdzܰ Act. EHRA positions are classified into one of three categories established by the UNC Board of Governors:
- Senior Academic and Administrative Officers (SAAO)
- Exempt Professional Staff (EPS)
- Faculty
Salary ranges for EHRA positions are established by the UNC System Office.
SHRA employees are Subject to the North Carolina Hܳ Rdzܰ Act. SHRA positions are classified into career-banded classifications based on competencies required for the position and demonstrated by the employee. Salary ranges for SHRA positions are established at the state level by the UNC System Office with approval from the Office of State Human Resources (OSHR).
Academic Affairs is responsible for the personnel process for faculty including recruitment, hiring and retention; leave and reassignment of duties requests; salary administration and special pays; and the faculty re-appointment, promotion and tenure process.
The need for a temporary employee may be necessary when extra help is needed due to:
- Extended medical leaves
- Peak production levels
- Transitional period
- Increased workload demands
Part-time temporary employees are ineligible to receive benefits (leave, health coverage, State service credit, etc.). They are, however, covered by Workers’ Compensation provisions.
Full-time temporary employees, who average 30 hours a week or more are eligible for the State Health Plan’s High-Deductible Health Plan.
Ģý Career Center is committed to working with university departments to support existing and evolving University initiatives related to student employment. Career Services provides hiring managers and students support for both federal work-study and University-funded employment.
Application Process
At Ģý, we value every applicant and are committed to fair and inclusive hiring practices. We aim to make the process transparent and respectful. Selected applicants are invited to interviews designed not only for us to learn about your strengths, but also to give you the chance to meet our team, explore our campus, and experience the welcoming environment that makes Ģý special.
Complete the online employment application, including any required supporting documents, and submit it electronically by 11:59 PM (ET) on the position’s closing date. If no closing date is listed, the position may be filled or withdrawn without notice. Any documents submitted become property of Ģý and will not be returned. Once submitted, your application and qualifications are immediately entered for consideration.
The hiring department reviews all applications, comparing qualifications, experience, and materials to the advertised requirements and preferences. Applicants whose experience best matches the position’s needs will be contacted for an interview.
The number, type, and format of interviews vary by position. Interviews provide candidates with the opportunity to discuss work experience, achievements, and how they can contribute to Ģý.
After interviews, the hiring manager conducts a comprehensive review before identifying a final candidate(s).
Reference checks are completed for final candidate(s), typically involving at least three professional references.
Once the finalist has been selected and references are reviewed, a verbal offer is extended. After acceptance, an official offer letter is issued along with onboarding documentation that must be completed prior to the first day of employment.
Ģý conducts background checks for candidates after a verbal offer has been extended and accepted. All employment offers are subject to the successful completion of a background check and the results thereof. These checks support a safe and secure campus and help ensure informed hiring decisions. Background screening may include criminal history and verification of educational credentials.
All new employees must complete the federal Form I9 to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States, in compliance with federal and state law.
Annual Security and Fire Safety Report (ASFSR)
The Ģý Annual Security and Fire Safety Report (ASFSR) is available to all prospective and current employees and students. A requirement of the the ASFSR provides you, and our community, with important information regarding campus security and personal safety, including crime and fire statistics for the three (3) previous calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on-campus, in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by Ģý, and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from campus.
